Kealakehe couldn’t keep it as close this time around.

A week after pushing Hawaii Preparatory Academy to overtime, the Waveriders watched Ka Makani swim away with an overwhelming 8-2 victory in Waimea.

The core players showed up for Hawaii Prep, with Ava Jean Johnston leading the way with a hat trick and Janelle Laros and Taylor Doherty each tallying a pair of goals.

Hannah Tomlinson scored both goals for Kealakehe.

Hawaii Prep (10-1) has a grip on the top seed in the four-team BIIF playoffs, having split the season series with Kamehameha (9-1), but owning the head-to-head goal differential advantage. Kamehameha is locked into the No. 2 seed.

Barring a loss to winless Keaau (0-10) this weekend, Kealakehe (5-4) should have a spot locked up in the playoffs. Where the Waveriders will be seeded is yet to be determined.

Waiakea (4-7), Hilo (4-7) and Konawaena (4-6) are all in the chase pack.

The Wildcats open up the final weekend of regular season play against the Cougars, but also face Kamehameha-Hawaii. Waiakea will get HPA in its regular season finale, while Hilo and Kealakehe also face off with major playoff implications.
